Update on #UZOGOESTOSCHOOLPROJECT : Progress so Far.

The “UZO GOES TO SCHOOL” project is an initiative of STRONG VOICE MEDIA headed by UZO of WazobiaFM. This project is targeted at helping to improve both the learning and working conditions of the pupils and teachers in government-owned schools. A lot of parents enroll their wards in private schools for reasons such as better infrastructure, good teachers, better learning environment and many other reasons. However, a whole lot more parents cannot afford the fees charged by the private schools. “UZO GOES TO SCHOOL” intends to:

- Help create a better learning environment in government owned schools,

- Encourage the parents to be more participatory in school activities,

- Help build better future leaders and a better society and to

- Promote basic health care and proper hygiene within the school environment.

The maiden edition and launch of “UZO GOES TO SCHOOL” shall be on the 1st Dec, 2012 at Oore Ofe Primary School, Ojo bus stop off Liasu road, Idimu-Ikotun Egbe, Alimosho LGA, Lagos.

Support #UzoGoesToSchoolProject With your Donation; They need your help.

Over the years, Nigeria’s educational system has experienced a steady decline in the quality of education being delivered to its student populace. The reason is not too hard to figure out. The educational sector is terribly underfunded. The yearly budget voted for education is just not enough. There have been cries and protests over the current state of affairs in our schools and I am sure that there will still be more. Education, no sorry, a SOUND education is very key to national development both now and in the distant future. It is very obvious that a drastic change needs to occur real fast if we hope to save the system from total collapse.

My name is Uzo Margaret Isinguzo, a broadcaster with WazobiaFM (UZO ODODO OBA 1 OF WAZOBIAFM) I am the product of a public school and firmly believe that the system can be revived if concerted efforts from well-meaning Nigerians are made to supplement government’s efforts. Please just imagine with me for a few minutes that you get to your office or shop and discover that everything has totally broken down. You have no chair to sit on, the table has just three and a half legs, your roof is leaking and even the office itself is boiling hot because there isn’t electricity to power your fan in the serious heat from the sun. You slowly move towards the toilet as you wonder how you will get work done effectively in this kind of environment. You open the door and stop dead in your tracks as the filth and gut-wrenching stench from the toilet hits you. The last few users haven’t been flushing because there is no water to do so! You start to ask yourself how much more of this you can take and for how long before you either go crazy, or just simply walk away from it all. Well, what you have just “imagined” is the exact reality of what the teachers and pupils in our public schools are currently facing! How effective can they be in such an environment? What kind of inspiration can these teachers have? How zealous in learning can these children be in this kind of setting? And in the end we hope to employ or work with quality graduates? HOW?

'UZO GOES TO SCHOOL' intends to create better learning environment for government owned schools, encourage parents to enrol their wards in public schools, help build better future leaders and a better society, promote child health care and proper hygiene within the school environment etc.

'UZO GOES TO SCHOOL' is an educational project and more like a charity project from the stable of STRONG VOICE MEDIA owned by Uzo. This project is targeted at pupils in government-owned schools. In Nigeria, large percentage of parents would rather enrol their wards in private schools than public schools especially kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary public schools because of reasons like lack of infrastructure, lack of teachers, lack of facilities, poor hygiene, and poor learning environment etc.

For every public school UZO shall visit, the following shall be donated: Marker boards and markers, furniture, toilet renovation, water supply, electricity , first Aid box, drugs and toiletries. Also, if need be to donate more than the above mentioned, we will definitely do so. “Of course, I can't do this alone, so I will source for financial support, moral support and otherwise from well meaning Nigerians to actualise this dream” says UZO.

More so, adequate documentation and update of fund dispensation and work progress shall be made available to members of the public via social media network and media houses. The maiden edition and launch of this project UZO GOES TO SCHOOL shall be at Oore Ofe Primary School, Ojo bus stop off Liasu road, Idimu-Ikotun Egbe, Alimosho LGA, Lagos. “This school happens to be the primary school I attended” says UZO.

The project shall be launched and the above mentioned contribution like Marker boards and markers, toilets etc shall be unveiled before members of the public, everybody present alongside names of donors shall also be updated on the blog and other social media network and the media.

The budget for Oore Ofe Primary School is a sum total of five hundred thousand naira (#500,000). UZO GOES TO SCHOOL shall visit and rehabilitate two public schools every year and the above mentioned donations shall apply to each school visited respectively.

Let's join hands together and help build the future of our Nigerian youths and the society as a whole. Alone we can do so little, but together, we can do much more.
